Agate is a stone that has been used in jewelry since antiquity. This dendrite agate has been painted by nature, the stone has been cut to frame a natural Cameo, with light swaths of pink and orange. Set on our signature double-links bail with a playful overhanging loop, and lens-set with an open back to maximize light through the stone. Strung on buttery 14K yellow gold.

Agate is a form of microcrystalline silica, meaning its crystal structure is so dense and minute that it cannot be seen with the naked eye. Agate is remarkably hard and durable and will not scratch easily. It has however long been used as carving material for ancient amulets and statues.
Dendrite Agate is called "dendrite" because the mineral inclusions bloom and branch, mimicking growth patterns of plants. Many people confuse these mineral inclusions for fossils, which they are not. I love this stone for its beautiful illustration of the repetition of form throughout all kingdoms of life.
Dendrite Agate is a favorite stone of mine to work with, both because of its durability and its gentle sourcing. Dendrite Agate is a surface agate, meaning it requires little to no mining in the traditional sense, and can be found in riverbeds and alluvial soil.
