Tanzanite is December's birthstone and at least 1000x rarer than a diamond. This blue-violet variety of Zoisite comes from only one 5-mile area in the world, the Merelani Hills of Tanzania. In the past 3 years, the government of Tanzania has reformed the rules and regulations surrounding the trade of Tanzanite to create a fair-trade market for this precious gem, and we're pretty happy about it!
