Peridot is the birthstone of August, as well as the 15th anniversary gemstone. The word comes from the Arabic "faridat," which literally means "gem." Peridot is a gem that comes from deep inside the earth, delivered to the surface by volcanos. In some rare instances, it's carried from out of this world to earth in meteorites.
